Ask you about the Black experience?
Okay.
Ummmm…..
(Honestly, and this may betray something indicative of my character, but, hey, there it is– I don’t often consider the Black experience…)
Question #1: Am I an asshole for really liking Sidney Poitier’s early work, but finding just about anything he did after “Sneakers” presumptuous and inane? Especially that piece of garbage he made with his daughter…ugh. I watched like five minutes of it, and had to turn it off.
I mean, c’mon– a sequel for “To Sir With Love”??? What was he THINKING???
Question #2: Am I a bastard for being really, really, really jealous of John Ridley’s vast array of talents and credits…and therefore hoping something bad befalls him, so I can enjoy some schadenfreude? “Three Kings” is a modern, underrated classic. I forced my Lit. students to read the first chapter of “The Drift,” because it is sublime. I just can’t like him…fucker went to Homestead. HOMESTEAD. Home. Stead.
These are the questions that haunt me.
